Abstract

The objectives of the workshop are the application of the theoretical knowledge acquired in the previous semesters in a urban space design project with emphasis on the principles of sustainable design, environmental quality and comfort.

Students are asked to apply principles of energy design, principles towards optimal user comfort and principles of a wider sustainable strategy. Issues related to the design of outdoor urban spaces with sustainable criteria, environmental, social, cultural and economic, will be discussed, thus approaching the whole spectrum of sustainable development.During the project, environmental simulation software will be used, which will aim to optimize the behavior of the built space environment and the comfort of the users

The issues that will concern students through the design exercise are concepts of environmental design and sustainability both in terms of passive systems and new active technologies with the aim of energy and environmental upgrading of public space. The scale of the subject is the scale of urban space and the principle of urban network, green network, small urna spaces, solutions in dense urban environments are examined.

Methodological educational tools that consist major role in the course are a. sensorial mapping (acoustic, visual, olfactory etc) of the spaces investigated as well as b.biomimetic design. These two methodologies are examined throughout the course.

In addition, the subject matter of the course will be complemented by the connection of spatial formulations with digital tools [audio-visual media]. This aims to introduce new media and explore the field of spatial installations, encouraging the animating of innovative objects and environments in relation to interior architecture.nBy using Design and Programming Technologies, projects are created that aim to shape an augmented sensory experience. In this way, the course, through the basic principles and techniques of Programming Environments and Interaction, explores new visual forms of expression in the architectural space.

Learning Outcomes

With the completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • deal with space resolution issues with sustainable criteria
  • investigate the possibilities in the modern scientific process so that they can apply cutting-edge applications and practices in their work
  • combine theory with practice by applying the theoretical knowledge acquired in the theoretical courses in design
